Desert Dash Trail 50K - DNF (Did Not Finish)

Desert Dash Trail 50K was held in Las Vegas at Red Rock National Park. It was a warm morning and I was feeling great! I was still on a natural high from the Tahoe Triple last weekend. The course was an easy rocky trail. I finished the first loop of 11.5 miles with a minor fall. I'm still feeling good and happy. As I left the start/finish to start my 5k loop, halfway into the loop, it was like something just sucked up all of my energy. Heat exhaustion set in with no warning! I could not walk. I would take 2 to 3 steps and would have to sit down. I waited a few minutes and started to walk again. Same thing I had to sit down. Back in June I did Running with the Devil in 109 degree heat and I got heat exhaustion at mile 23 but I didn't feel like this and was able to finish the race. A runner came by and asks if I was okay and I said please let the staff know that I'm not doing well and I need to drop. At that moment I made the call. Back in 2008 I had my first DNF. I was doing a 50 miler and at mile 30 I got heat exhaustion, altitude sickness and I continued until mile 44. By pushing my body 14 miles with heat sickness cause me to lose that ultra and the next day marathon. I lost 12 pounds and was in the bed for 2 days. I'm very proud of myself. This time I knew when to say "when". I wasn't going to blog about it but Kim said "you should blog about this experience because you are human."

This young lady did awesome and she fell too! 95 degree heat and still smiling.

Micheal is still going strong in the heat. Congrats!

Wow! I have had to make some serious decisions lately. Life is full of decisions.

YOU MUST LET IT GO

You cannot erase the past; you must let it go.
You cannot change yesterday;
You must accept the lessons learned.
You cannot stop time
or stand still in a world
racing around in circles;
You must dance with the wind
and sing with the songs
that are playing.
Let whatever mistakes you have made remain in the shadows
of times gone by,
and let love be the answer to the mysteries in life.
Keep looking...for the peacefulness you are searching for
Keep believing...in the contentment you talk so endlessly about
Keep trying...to be all that you are.
Remember...the magic in life ends whenever you decide you have everything.
-Deanna Beisser-

Thank you Glenn for a race well done.

Keep Believing!
